Therapath Neuropathology Announces National Ophthalmic Pathology Program
NEW YORK, Jan. 15, 2015 — Therapath LLC (www.therapath.com), a leader in neuropathology laboratory services, launches its national ophthalmic pathology program. This expands Therapath’s menu of nationally available highly specialized testing and diagnostics services.
Ophthalmic pathology, a subspecialty of surgical pathology and ophthalmology, is dedicated to the analysis of tissue from the eye and surrounding tissues. Diagnosing diseases of the eye requires highly specialized and experienced pathologists who provide interpretation of the stained ocular tissue specimens using their comprehensive, skilled knowledge of eye anatomy and diseases. At present, largely due to cost and limited interest in the field, organizations no longer provide board certification in ophthalmic pathology. However, Therapath’s program is administered with pathologists who are Board Certified from the College of American Pathology along with fellowship training specifically in the field of ophthalmic pathology.
The Ocular Pathology Program at Therapath is designed to offer these specialty services to medical professionals locally and nationwide. The addition of this program to Therapath’s menu of services, allows community based providers to have access to this necessary and specialized field within ophthalmology even if they are not located near a large academic center. Therapath is equipped with state of the art facilities to provide immunohistochemical, immunoflourescence and light microscopy services with access to electron microscopy and whole slide imaging technology as well using the Leica Aperio System.
